The teenage and adolescent years can be some of the most challenging of a person's life. Young people today face pressures that are more complex and relentless than ever before, and many struggle in silence, unsure of how to ask for help or whether anyone will truly understand what they are going through.
If your child or teenager is struggling, therapy can make a meaningful difference. At Insightful Journey we provide a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where young people can explore their experiences, develop important life skills, and build the resilience they need to thrive.

We provide therapy for children and adolescents ages 12 and older. Every young person is different, and our therapists take the time to understand each client's unique needs, personality, and goals before developing a personalized approach to their care.

Adolescents and teenagers seek therapy for many different reasons. Some common concerns include:
Anxiety and worry
Depression and low mood
Trauma and difficult past experiences
Academic stress and performance pressure
Social difficulties and peer relationships
Bullying and social isolation
Family conflict and changes such as divorce or blended families
Identity exploration and self-discovery
Low self-esteem and negative self-image
Grief and loss
Difficulty managing emotions and behavior
Life transitions such as moving, changing schools, or preparing for adulthood
Whatever brings a young person to therapy, our therapists approach each client with warmth, curiosity, and genuine respect for their experience.

Therapy gives adolescents and teenagers a space that is entirely their own, where they can speak openly without fear of judgment or consequences. Many young people find it easier to open up to a therapist than to parents, teachers, or friends, and this safe space can be profoundly valuable during a time of significant growth and change.
Our therapists use a range of evidence-based approaches tailored to the needs of younger clients, including:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help young people identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to build psychological flexibility and values-based living
Mindfulness-based practices to develop present moment awareness and emotional regulation
Trauma-informed approaches including EMDR to process and heal from difficult experiences
Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to build on existing strengths and develop practical coping strategies
Somatic approaches to address stress and trauma held in the body

Teen and adolescent therapy sessions at Insightful Journey are warm, relaxed, and paced according to each young person's individual comfort and readiness. Our therapists are experienced in building trust with younger clients and understand that the therapeutic relationship is especially important when working with adolescents.
Sessions are designed to feel like a conversation rather than an interrogation. Your child or teenager will never be forced to discuss anything they are not ready to talk about, and the pace of the work will always be guided by their comfort and needs.

We understand that seeking therapy for your child or teenager can bring up many questions and concerns. We welcome parental involvement in the therapeutic process and will work with you to determine the most helpful level of involvement based on your child's age and the goals of therapy.
For younger children, parental involvement is often an important part of the process. For older adolescents, sessions are typically primarily individual to allow for a space where they feel free to speak openly, while still maintaining appropriate communication with parents and caregivers.
In Tennessee, parental or guardian consent is required for all minors to begin therapy. We will provide the necessary consent forms prior to your child's first appointment. If you have any questions about the consent process or what to expect, please contact us and we will be happy to walk you through it.
If your child or teenager is struggling, reaching out for support is one of the most important things you can do for them. Therapy gives young people the tools, perspective, and support they need to navigate life's challenges and build a strong foundation for their future.
We encourage you to take that first step. Request a free 15-minute consultation and our Practice Administrator will help match your child with the right therapist for their needs.
