Jo Willey, DSW

Not accepting new clients.

I am deeply committed to supporting individuals in their journey toward emotional healing and resilience, and to helping couples strengthen emotional connection and well-being within their relationships. With more than 20 years of experience in the mental health field, I bring a grounded, compassionate presence to therapy and strive to create a space where clients feel safe, respected, and free from judgment.

Throughout my career, I have worked in a wide range of clinical settings, including residential treatment programs with adolescents, residential and supported living programs for adults addressing substance use disorders, and leadership roles within intensive outpatient programs for adults with co-occurring disorders. These experiences have allowed me to work with individuals and couples from many backgrounds and life circumstances, reinforcing my belief in the importance of truly hearing each person’s story and supporting them in discovering their own strengths and solutions.

My therapeutic approach is rooted in empathy, authenticity, and collaboration. I place strong value on the therapeutic relationship and believe meaningful change happens when clients feel seen, understood, and empowered. I draw from evidence-based practices including Acceptance and Integration Training (AAIT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and mindfulness-based techniques, tailoring each intervention to align with the unique needs and goals of individuals and couples.

In addition to my clinical work, I serve as a Clinical Assistant Professor with the University of Tennessee, Knoxville College of Social Work. I am passionate about training and mentoring future social workers and integrating current research into clinical practice. My academic work and research have focused on demonstrating the effectiveness of Acceptance and Integration Training, further informing the care I provide to clients.

Whether you are navigating personal challenges, relationship stress, or life transitions, I will walk alongside you with care and intention. Therapy is a place to build insight, deepen connection, and move forward with clarity and confidence.
