Yes, we offer a free 15-minute phone consultation with our practice administrator. This is a relaxed, no-pressure conversation to help answer your questions and match you with the right therapist. There is no commitment required. You can request your consultation by filling out our contact form or calling us at (865) 290-0211.
Finding the right fit is one of the most important parts of the therapy process. Our Practice Administrator is available to help match you with a therapist based on your specific needs, goals, insurance, and scheduling preferences during a free 15-minute consultation. You can also browse our providers page to learn about each therapist's specialties and approach before reaching out.
Your first session is an opportunity for your therapist to get to know you and understand what brings you to therapy. Your therapist will ask questions about your background, what you're experiencing, and what you're hoping to achieve. There's no pressure to share more than you're comfortable with; the pace is always yours to set. By the end of the session you and your therapist will begin to discuss a plan for moving forward together.
Everyone works at their own pace. Therapy is an investment in yourself of time, money, and energy. How long it takes depends on numerous factors, such as your motivation to do the work, frequency of sessions, and the specific issues involved.
Most clients begin with weekly sessions, which allows for consistency and momentum in the therapeutic process. As you make progress, sessions may shift to every other week or monthly. The frequency is always tailored to your individual needs and goals and will be discussed with your therapist.
Therapists and psychiatric providers serve different but complementary roles. Therapists use a range of evidence-based approaches to help you understand and work through your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, supporting healing and growth in ways that are tailored to your unique needs. Psychiatric providers, including psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners, can prescribe medication. At Insightful Journey we do not prescribe medication, but we are happy to coordinate care with your psychiatric provider or primary care provider if needed.
Therapy can be helpful for anyone who wants to better understand themselves, work through difficult emotions, navigate life's challenges, or simply grow as a person. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. If you're curious about whether therapy might help, we encourage you to reach out for a free consultation and we can help you figure out if it's a good fit.
The relationship between you and your therapist is one of the most important factors in successful therapy. If you don't feel the right fit after a few sessions, please let us know. We want you to get the support you need and will work with you to find a better match, whether that means connecting you with another therapist within our practice or providing a referral to someone outside our practice who may be a better fit for your needs.
Continuity of the work is very important. Missed sessions have a negative impact on the therapy process. We require at least 24-hour notice if you will not be able to attend a scheduled appointment. On request, we’ll do our best to reschedule or we can switch to a phone or video session. If 24-hour notice is not provided, you will be charged a cancellation fee.
We ask that clients arrive within 15 minutes of their scheduled start time. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late we may not be able to see you, as the remaining session time may not be sufficient to be effective. If you are running late please contact us at (865) 290-0211 as soon as possible so we can do our best to accommodate you. Late arrivals that cannot be seen will be treated as a missed appointment and our cancellation policy will apply.
Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of the therapeutic relationship, and we take it very seriously. Everything you share in therapy is kept private, with a few important exceptions required by law. We are mandated to take action if we believe a client is in danger of harming themselves or others, or if there is reason to believe child or elder abuse is occurring. Outside of these situations your privacy is fully protected. Please review our Notice of Privacy Practices for complete information.
We take the privacy and security of your health information very seriously. Our practice uses TherapyNotes, a HIPAA compliant electronic health record system that provides a client portal for telehealth sessions, secure messaging, document sharing, and form completion. All electronic communication and record keeping meets or exceeds the requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). You can access your client portal at any time to conduct telehealth sessions, complete forms, send secure messages, and manage your account. For complete information about how we handle your health information please review our Notice of Privacy Practices.
Telehealth therapy works just like in-person therapy, except sessions take place over a secure video platform from the comfort of your own home or any private location. Before your first session your therapist will send you a link to join. All you need is a device with a camera and microphone and a stable internet connection. Sessions are the same length and follow the same therapeutic process as in-person visits.
Research consistently shows that telehealth therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy for most mental health concerns. Many clients find that the convenience and comfort of being in their own space actually enhances the therapeutic experience. Our therapists are experienced in providing high quality care virtually and will ensure your sessions are just as meaningful and productive as they would be in person.
You will need a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a working camera and microphone, a stable internet connection, and a private space where you feel comfortable speaking openly. We recommend using headphones to ensure privacy and reduce background noise. Your therapist will send you everything you need to join your session ahead of time.
Telehealth sessions must take place while you are physically located in a state where your therapist is licensed. All of our therapists are licensed in Tennessee and can see clients who are located anywhere in the state during their session. Some of our therapists are also licensed in additional states and can see clients located there as well. Please visit our providers page to see each therapist's specific licensing information, or contact us and we will help match you with a therapist who can see you in your location.
Please see our Insurance and Billing page.
Our self-pay rates are $125 per session for licensed therapists and $85 per session for pre-licensed therapists. We accept most major insurance plans which may significantly reduce your out-of-pocket cost. Contact us if you have questions about fees or would like help understanding your insurance benefits.
We believe cost should not be a barrier to getting support. We accept most major insurance plans and offer self-pay rates. We also have a limited number of reduced rate spots available for clients who qualify. Please contact us to discuss your situation and we will do our best to find an option that works for you.

Yes, several of our therapists work with children, adolescents, and teenagers. We understand that young people face unique challenges at every stage of development, including academic stress, identity exploration, anxiety, depression, family changes, and social pressures. Our therapists who work with younger clients are experienced in creating a safe, supportive space where they feel comfortable opening up and working toward meaningful change. Please visit our providers page or contact us to find out which therapists are currently accepting younger clients.
This depends on the age of the client and the goals of therapy. For younger children, parental involvement is often an important part of the therapeutic process. For older adolescents, sessions may be primarily individual to allow for a space where they feel comfortable speaking openly, while still maintaining appropriate parental involvement. Your therapist will discuss the best approach with you at the start of treatment and will adjust as needed throughout the process.
Yes. In Tennessee, parental or guardian consent is required for all minors to begin therapy. We will provide the necessary consent forms prior to your child's first appointment. If you have questions about the consent process or what to expect, please contact us and we will be glad to walk you through it.
As an existing client you can access your TherapyNotes portal to join telehealth sessions, send secure messages, complete forms, and manage your appointments. You can access your portal directly at Client Portal or through the link at the bottom of our website. If you need assistance accessing your portal please contact us and our Practice Administrator will be glad to help.
You can reschedule or cancel an appointment through your TherapyNotes client portal by submitting an appointment reschedule request or sending a secure message. You can also contact us by phone or text at (865) 290-0211. Please remember that we require at least 24-hour notice for cancellations to avoid a cancellation fee.
The best way to contact your therapist between sessions is through secure messaging in your TherapyNotes client portal. This ensures your communication remains private and HIPAA compliant. For urgent matters please call our office at (865) 290-0211. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency please call 988 or 911.
We require a card on file for all clients. If you need to update your payment information you have two options. You can request that we add a Payment Authorization Form to your TherapyNotes portal, complete it securely online, and your information will be updated. Alternatively you can update your payment information in person at your next appointment. Please contact us at (865) 290-0211 or through your portal if you need assistance.
